Appointments

Before we are able to make an appointment we need to receive your referral, either via fax or email.

To ensure your referral is processed as quickly as possible we need to know if you are covered by private health insurance. You can either make a note on your referral before sending, or give our team a call to let us know.

Dr Thiruchelvam looks over each referral and will inform his team if further testing is required before your first appointment. Our team will let you know of this.

Once your referral has been evaluated by Dr Thiruchelvam our team will either call or email you to organise an appointment date & time.

Please ensure all contact details on your referral are correct.

Fees & Private Health Insurance

Private Health Insurance

Being in a Private health fund allows you and your family to access the right health services at the right time. You have control of the provider, facility and treatment.

Depending on the level of cover you have chosen, you may be required to pay an excess prior to your admission. As private health insurance can be very difficult to navigate, we perform eligibility checks when any procedures have been recommended, to ensure that you are covered

With most health fund providers, you will have out of pocket costs. Some patients have been extremely disappointed with the rebates that their health fund offers, but we as a team will ensure that all of Dr Thiruchelvam's patients are aware of the costs involved with any surgery that has been recommended.

Time off work

Following your procedure with Dr Thiruchelvam, you will be required to have two weeks off work, school or day care.

Our team can provide you with a medical certificate if required. Please notify us before your surgery so this can be organised.

What to bring to hospital

If Dr Thiruchelvam has requested you have a CT scan at Hunter Imaging Group prior to surgery, you will need to leave them with Dr Thiruchelvam's staff. They will hand these to Dr Thiruchelvam on the day of your surgery.

If you have had a CT scan elsewhere you will need to collect these films and take them with you on the day.

The hospital will also be able to provide you with a more detailed list of what is needed for your overnight stay in hospital.
